The Magic of Biochar & the Promise of Pyrolysis

September 24, 2022 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

The Magic of Biochar and the Promise of Pyrolysis

Are you growing some of your own food?  Do you have a garden you are proud of?  Do you know that you could increase the productivity and health of your soil by applying biochar?

Come and learn about this extraordinary substance – which ancient inhabitants in South America discovered thousands of years ago.

We could produce biochar right here in the Blue Mounains, by building a system called Pyrolysis, using so-called ‘waste’ wood to produce charcoal.   There are so many benefits: carbon sequestration, soil amendment, power generation, animal feed supplements, heating, pollution remediation and better ‘green waste’ management.

If you are interested in learning more, join Peter Green and members of the Blue Mountains Renewable Energy Co-op for a chat about the possibilities.

Peter Green is a retired geoscientist and now an environmental activist.  His interest in pyrolysis and biochar derives from membership of the Blue Mountains Renewable Energy Cooperative (BMRenew) where he is a director.   Peter is fascinated by the amazing range of benefits biochar and pyrolysis offers, and sees it as comprising a valuable part of the global fight against global warming and soil destruction, inter alia.  Peter is also a keen gardener, particularly vegetables, normally growing far more veggies than he can eat and giving the surplus to neighbours and charity.

This workshop is part of ReIMAGINE – a headline Festival of Resilience event. For more information or to RSVP click here.
