Grand Opening of Yanema Budjery Gumada walking trail and Fair Day!
October 15 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
Leura Public School hosts a Spring Fair and Open Day to celebrate the launch of the Yanema Budjery Gumada walking trail around the school that features 14 unique sites of cultural, ecological and historical significance. The trail name means ‘walk with good spirit’ and was chosen by Darug artist and cultural educator Leanne Tobin, whose stunning mural Ngadjung0ga (‘freshwater place’) is one of the artworks featured on the trail (image above).
Yanema Budjery Gumada has been over a decade in the making. Originally the vision of local artist and former LPS parent Niki Martignago “the trail encourages us to slow down, to observe the deep histories around us, and to understand how collaboration in art and storying can help us care for places we inhabit, wherever they might be”.
Running all day will be creative arts workshops, live performances by LPS music ensembles, LEGO corner, interactive drumming circle and guided trail walks. As well as food stalls, RFS fire truck, STEM activities, treasure hunt, BBQ and as part of the Edible Garden Trail weekend you can buy fresh produce and seedlings from our Kitchen Garden market stall.
